What is the title of the BTEC qualification you are studying?

The BTEC qualification that I am studying is BTEC Level 3 Creative Media Production.

How long will it take you to complete this qualification?

I will take me two years to complete the BTEC qualification.

How many units will you study in total?

Over the two years i will be studying seven uints all together.

How many of them are mandatory and what does mandatory mean?

There are three mandatory units and mandatory means that you do not have a choice and that you have to do the work.

What are the titles of the mandatory units and when (in the year) will you study them?

The titles of the mandatory units are Unit 1: Pre - Production Techniques for the Creative Media Industries, Unit 2: Communication Skills for Creative Media Production and i will be studying this in year 12. Then in year 13 i will be studying Unit 3: Research Techniques for the Creative Media Industries.

What are the main topics of each mandatory unit? (use the specs to research this)

For the first mandatory unit i will be studying there are three main topics that i will learn, which are to understand the requirements needed for a specific media production, make a document for the pre - production of a specific media production and finally apply what is needed in the pre - production int the media production. Then in Unit 2 there are also three main topics which i will deed to learn how to take certain information i need from a written document, to be able to produce a report in a media production context and be able to explain a media productional proposal using appropriate equipment. And in Unit 3 it also has three main topics which I will learn are to understand the reasons of research in the creative media industries, know how to include a various amount of different research methods and techniques and be able to present the results of the research.

How many optional units will you have to study and what does optional mean?

I will be studying four optional units and optional means that you have a choice in what you do.

What are the titles of the optional units you will study and when (in the year) will you study them?

The titles of the optional Units are Unit 23: Multi-Camera Techniques, Unit 29: Music Video Production both of these will be done in year 12. Then in year 13 I will be doing Unit 27: Factual Programme Production Techniques for television and Unit 30: Advertisement Production for Television.

What are the main topics of each optional unit? (use the specs to research this)

In Unit 23 I there will be threee main topics that I will have to learn is that I will need to understand programme formats that use multi-camera production, i also have to be able to plan a multi-camera production and perform an optional role in a multi-camera production. Then in Unit 29 i will also have to learn the four main topics which are to understand the pupose of music videos, understand the styles, conventions, and techniques of music videos. also to be able to originate and plan a music video production for a specific music track and finally to work to complete production of a music video. Unit 27 also has four main topics in which i must learn are understanding the issues that relate to factual programming for television, understand codes and conventions of factual progarmming for television, I will have to plan and research any factual programme for televison and produce a documentary. Lastly in Unit 30 there is also four main topics which are to knowing the structures and techniques of adverts, originate and develop an idea for a advert, know how to make a televison advertisement and reflect upon our own advert.

What media production skills will you be developing on this course?

The media production skills that I will be developing on the course is communication skills, research skills using a variety of programs, I.C.T skills using different techniques, presentation skills using a variety of formats and organisational skills.

What transferable personal skills will you be developing on this course?

The transferable personal skills that i will be developing on this course is independent enquirers , team workers, self managers, creative thinkers, reflective learners and effective participators these will all serve me in the future both in my academic and work environment.

My Media Summer

During my summer holiday I went to see Ice age 4 continental drift with my family. This film had appealed to me as i had watched the first 3 in the series, i found that this film was not as exciting and adventurous as the past films as this film was more about the relationship between Many and his daughter Peaches. On the way to America in the plane i watched Journey 2 the mysterious Islands and The Hunger Games, I enjoyed these films as there was a lot of action,I had also read the Hunger Games book and enjoyed it very much, however the film was as good as i expected it to be. Then on the way back i watched The Lucky One and Marvel Avengers Assemble these films were good and i did enjoy them. I had previously watched Marvels Avengers Assemble and really enjoyed that film as it has a lot of action and have watched the previous like Thor and Iron Man. 

Also during the summer while I was in  America I listened to Justin Bieber's song As Long as you love me, Taylor Swift's song We are never ever getting back together, Maroon 5's song One more night and Kanye West's song Mercy. These songs all appealed to me as they had a good dance beat and i liked these artists previous songs so i looked forward to hearing these songs when they came out. I also listened to the glee soundtrack a lot during the summer as I love that show and the songs they sing in the show.

I also watched quite a few TV shows during my summer holiday like Heroes, this interested me as i had heard that it was a good show from a lot of family and friends, the show also appealed to me as it was about normal people who do not realize that they have and have to try and adapt to there new lifestyle. Another show i watched a lot of was NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii five-o and Bones all these shows interest me as I enjoy watching these crimes shows because i find them interesting and i like trying to figure out who the killer is before they can and the suspense and tension it creates keeps me on the edge of my seat.  

While holidaying in America I watched the news to keep up to date with the Paralympics and also to watch the weather as there was a hurricane near by were we where staying so we had to keep an eye out. I found out that this was not the only time that we had a hurricane nearby but it also happened 4 years ago however this year it was different as Hurricane Isaac was following the same route as Hurricane Katrina and caused a lot of damage in its wake. I found this an interesting story as it had been seven years since Hurricane Katrina had hit and at the same time.
